A Drill for Africa

We are pleased to inform and share with you the project “A Drill for Africa” born from the latest trip that the Association does every year in Kenya.

We often hear that in Africa there is no water. This is partly true. There is no water because there are no tools to build wells and water pipes. Thus, we would like to give the African people the tools and technology to make wells and water pipes autonomously and independently thereby reducing costs and increasing the concrete possibilities of safe drinking water.
We would like to begin solving the root of the problem by buying a drill. It’s our dream that will become a reality with you together.

The supply of drinking water in the villages of Kenya will greatly improve the current sanitary conditions of all communities. Cholera, the main illness related to the use of non-potable water, typhoid fever, hepatitis A and infant mortality will be reduced. Conditions of families will improve by reducing the time spent by women and children procuring water from distant places. Economic conditions will advance since water will be used to improve agricultural production thereby increasing employment. Deforestation and CO2 emissions will be reduced as there will be no more need to burn wood in order to boil water to make it drinkable.

This project specifically recognises the right to access water as a basic right for every human being. “A Drill for Africa” will spring water drop by drop, will water the seeds of justice, dignity, of … an open future humanity is worthy of.

The drill will be used by a Kenyan collaborator that has already made some water pumps using a rented drill at exorbitant prices that only allows the creation of a few pumps.

It is called “Lone Star LS100”. The whole package comes with machinery, tube piercing, mud pump, rotary engine and hand gearbox use to raise and lower the pipe, and an easy to use and carry power generator. It can drill as far as 33 meters deep. It costs €12,000.00.

To participate in the project you may give your contributions that correspond to parts of the drill until the €12,000.00 has been reached:
• € 400.00 if you want to participate in the purchase of accessories and tools;
• € 800.00 if you want participate in the purchase of mud pump and hoses;
• € 1,000.00 if you want to participate in the purchase of the pipe borer;
• Larger amounts for the purchase of the drilling platform.
